VIA Rail has suspended two train engineers as they investigate a close call in Aldershot.
An eastbound VIA train went through a red stop signal near the Royal Botanical Gardens on Labour Day and nearly collided with a Niagara bound GO Train.
The VIA train was stopped and held for more than two hours while VIA and CN supervisors investigated.
Passengers on the VIA #76 train have been offered a full refund after being forced to remain inside the idle train.
VIA says the rule violation has been reported to the Transportation Safety Board.
In an email sent from Greg Gormick of All Aboard St. Mary’s to CHML News, a VIA Rail official says the engineers were not impaired by drugs or alcohol and the incident is not considered to be criminal in nature.
